Day 5. Monday 4.4.2022

  • Bodystorming

  • Mockups

  • Cultural Probes

We started off with a body storming session, where we individually came up with an act related to the Safe Space topic. Audrey made up a scene where people have been queueing to get into a bar. She was "the doorman" telling the rules of the space to all. The point was to show how unmeaning these rules are for a person who has been queueing for hours. And so the people actually respect these rules? Liv came up with an act of inviting some people but leaving others out: including others and excluding the rest. Sonja presented a situation where she is a designer and she wants to design for people representing different minority groups, putting herself in the "knowing all". position of defining a "neutral safe space". Tanja had tickets and invited a person to a rock concert highlighting the fact that she knows it is not the other person's usual scene but this way inviting the "outsider" to her safe space.

Next, we did a Mockup exercise with our group. We discussed ways of building bridges. We wanted to define the term safe space since the definition was still unclear. We had some ideas about making a collage but decided to do a simulator inspired by the Berghain simulator. https://berghaintrainer.com/

After lunch, we did a Cultural Probe exercise. We started talking about the transitions between safe spaces. What happens in between? We decided to do an analog and an online version of a cultural probe that could help us to collect information regarding the transitions people encounter during their days. The utilities needed for documenting this information was drawn on a paper and also made digitally with Figma.
