Day 1. Tuesday 29.3

Aktualisiert: 6. Apr. 2022

  • The topic of the course: Systemic changes: who & what is at the center of design?

  • What is going on in the world - more-than-human design or planet-centric design

  • Starting group work - Deconstructing Privilege

Systemic changes

Design started with colonial perspectives, but did we yet shift to postcolonial perspectives?

  1. optimization - who is in the center?

  2. what are visible & invisible infrastructures of design?

  3. critical perspectives on human-centered design - should we move towards more than that?

Deconstructing Privilege

We gathered in groups according to our interests. Liv, Tanja, Audrey and me chose to work with the topic of deconstructing privilege.

After choosing our main topic, we started to break the topic into smaller categories by writing down our ideas and letting all of us develop that idea a bit further.

By the end of the day we ended up with four main topics:

  1. Transportation Privilege, meaning the transportation accessibility in Switzerland is a privilege.

  2. Safe spaces & their politics. How are safe spaces created and maintained accessibility - who gets in?

  3. Community building through solidarity. Community, Sustainability, Circle Economy.

  4. Data accessibility. What means data in our world, how valuable is it, and how accessible is it? It's a privilege to access data, and many people don't know, that they don't have that privilege.

We did some observations in the field by taking observing and documenting in train stations and in public transport and by doing research on the internet.
